Function and Application:
1. Liver protection for animal and human
It protects liver cells by hindering the entry of harmful toxins and helping to remove these substances from liver cells. Like other bioflavonoids, silymarin is a powerful antioxidant. Silymarin has also been shown to regenerate damaged liver cells. Recent studies have shown that silymarin has the ability to prevent fibrosis, a type of patients with inflammatory liver conditions secondary to diseases such as alcoholism and hepatitis, which may eventually develop into a process of cirrhosis
The most common use of silymarin is to neutralize the harmful effects of alcohol on the liver. The double-blind test showed that it can help the liver of the abstainer to return to a healthy state. Some trials suggest that thistle extract can improve the quality of life and even give hope to hepatitis patients. silymarin can alter the bile composition, potentially reducing the risk of gallstones. However, this effect still needs to be confirmed by human clinical trials.
